Halloween!!!

Today we finished up with the alcohol notes and I collected the journals from the kids that were absent yesterday. 3rd period is funding a Slovenska...so is 4th. Hahahahaha!!! Hey Oleg!!!

Today we did some housekeeping for the class, catching up from the week of testing. Health articles are due on Friday.

10 -25-12

Today we finished watching the smashed video and watched a short dvd on tobacco. Vocab is due tommorow. I'm going to collect the alcohol and hazing notes.

10-23

Today the kids finished reading chapter 23 and summarized the last lesson of the chapter in their composition books. We then watched an enthralling video on the history of tobacco. ;)

10-22-12

Today the students and I began reading Chapter oops, I forgot. Well it was page 562? Well anyway, we began reading the Alcohol chapter. The students summarized both sections 1 and 2 that we covered, and depending on attendance we may have a video tomorrow. I'm working on the vocab, because I'm trying to change it up. Give me a minute. Should be done/in my head and on paper by tonight.  Either way, it's still gonna be due on Friday.

Here are the vocab words... Intoxication, Adverse, Dependence, Renal, Psychosis, Convulsion, Blackout, Intervention, Compulsion, Tremor.  You are to supply legitimate definitions for all 10, as well as put DEFINE each word in YOUR OWN words and then you are to illustrate(draw a picture) of 1 of the words of your choice.  Takes some thought, but you can do it.

10/16-17/12

10-16- The students had a post test on the Tobacco information that they previously took a post test on at the beginning of the unit.  Health Articles are due on Friday.  They then took a pre-test on the alcohol unit we are about to begin.  We went over the answers of the pre-test too.  They were reminded to do the Video response assingment by Wednesday for credit.


10-17- The students are testing today, so for 3rd and 4th period, they will be having a Ben's Bells Town hall type conversation in the class rooms.

Health articles were assigned today. The students went over their summary notes to the class. Students were reminded to check the video and respond for points by wednesday.

Today the students read the Chapter 21 in the text covering Tobacco.  I had them work in triads as we have done before.  They worked on summarizing and if they had time, they transposed their summaries on to the larger sheet of paper to be shared with the class on Monday. 

They also had a journal entry asking if they would ever smoke or chew tobacco, or date someone that did.

*** OMG!!!!*** Messing around on YouTube I made the mistake of clicking and subsequently watching this dude pack 5 cans of chew in his mouth in a matter of minutes! Do not look for this video it will make you want to Vomit! All I kept thinking about is: "I wonder what the inside of his mouth looks like...?" So gross! I'm feeling ill :(

Today the students had their test on Chapter 7 and 8 and we graded them in class.  They were reminded that the vocab is due on Friday.  Definitions and sentences are mandatory.  I will pass out passes for the quarter (2 free) this week. You might need to remind me.  If you did not pass this test you MUST re-take this test before Friday. You can come at your lunch time to do so. It will not be made up after school.  And it must be completed and graded before FRIDAY. No exceptions! Your athletic eligibility relies on whethe you get that grade up before PROGRESS reports are due!

10-8-12

Today the students had a journal entry following the story about a son that passed away at 16.  I had the students write a letter to someone with sentence starters; Dear ______   I'm sorry, I wish, If I could change....

They were assigned Vocab : CARCINOGEN, STIMULANT, LEUKOPLAKIA, MISCARRIAGE, METASTASIS, LYMPHOMA, ADDITIVE, EMPHYSEMA, ARSENIC AND CILIA. 
WORDS ARE TO BE DEFINED AND USED IN SENTENCES FOR FULL CREDIT!!!!

We went over the test and they will be tested tomorrow on chapters 7+8.
