Yesterday the students worked on SSR and a pop quiz.  Today they presented their health articles.

It's FALL BREAK and we don't come back to school until the 8th of October!!!!!

Turns out this is gonna be double the work for me to post in both spots! You guys better take advantage of this situation then...I'm telling you!!!  Okay, so today the students presented their product to the class.  They were inventive and funny.  You all did a great job! I collected the first batch of signed grade reports too, needing them by Wednesday or the grade stands. Health article is due on Thursday.Check out the facebook page: ms addison's health class.

Today the students worked on their fitness/health product and turned in their Vocab.  They are to finish the work over the weekend and present it on Monday. Passes were passed out and grades updated. The students were also given grade reports to have them signed by parents to receive the NA grade for 20% of the orginal value of the item.  Don't forget to show up at the game and make contact with me for your homework pass!  Go Trojans!  Facebook page will be up this weekend.

19-20 Sept 2012

Wednesday the students had a journal entry that asked them to talk about how they felt about fad diets specifically spoke about the lady who dieted on only Starbucks for 2 years to lose weight.  They then worked on Chapter 8's Chapter Review #'s 1-9. writing out or paraphrasing the questions as always for full credit that is!  EARLY OUT!!!

Thursday-Trivia and then they worked on the Fitness/Health related product with one partner or solo.  The item can be real or imagined and contain the following: Specify audience (who is it for?)
The price
Description/how it works
Where is it available. 

They worked on this the entire class period and were encouraged to work on it at home too but  will have time in class tomorrow to make it "pop" with color and style! ha ha ha. It is due at the end of the class period on FRIDAY.....Guess what else is due on FRIDAY!? You guessed it! VOCAB!!! don't forget the sentences!!!!!

Today the students started out with a trivia on the board.  We then began reading the fitness chapter in the text. We will work on the chapter review tomorrow in class.

Today the students were allowed to go outside as a reward for turning in their homework from Friday.  VOCAB was assigned: Therapeutic, Antioxidants, Electrolytes, Dehydration, Metabolism, Ambulatory, Fracture, Lumbar, Prowess, Regimen
Words must be defined and used in health related sentences

Today the students presented their health articles and as a reward ALL classes will go outside on MONDAY. I appreciate the hard work that you guys put forth this week and you deserve to be rewarded for such.  HOWEVER, those that did not turn in their work will not be able to join in on the festivities that will ensue. (Walk the perimeter or the track instead...fitness always :) ) New grades were posted.

Oopsie Daisy! I was clearing thinking that yesterday was Thursday instead of Wednesday hence, the Health Article's due tomorrow bit! Well, I can honestly give you that reminder today.  Tomorrow-HEALTH ARTICLES are due! Today in class however, we watched a video: I Eat 33,000 calories a day. Examing the realities of food addiction and weight issues in Adults.

9/13/12

Today the students did SSR for the duration of the class if they did not have to start or finish the Chapter review from yesterday (chpt 6). Grades were updated and posted.  They had a journal entry: What would you go back for if you could safely go back into your burning house for, assuming all living things got out safely beforehand?
HEALTH ARTICLES ARE DUE TOMORROW IN MY HAND NOT MY INBOX! 70% =FREEDOM!!!!

9/10-11-12

Yesterday the students had a journal entry that had them respond to the story about female fight phenomenon. We started reading chapter 6(wt mgmt).
Today we finished reading chapter 6 & they were assigned #'s1-12 in the chapter review. They are required to write out or paraphrase the questions. HEALTH ARTICLES ARE DUE ON FRIDAY! The signed grade reports are due by Friday.

7 Sept 12

Today the students turned in their vocab and not one class reached the 70% required for a free day. I spoke to them about the importance of remembering deadlines and checking the blog for the assignments on a daily basis.  I also discussed decreasing the due date to one or two days depending on how they turn in their work next week.  We will see. We began reading the chapter on wt. mgmt.  TRIVIA question today.

TEST RE-TAKES AND MANDATORY DO-OVERS ARE TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF THE DAY ON MONDAY. YOU MAY TAKE CARE OF THIS DURING YOUR LUNCH TIME (A OR B) AND AFTER SCHOOL IN MY ROOM.

Today the students were passed back their graded Nutrition/Health Tests. We then went over the calculation for BMI and discussed how it is not the most accurate measurement of one's health status.  We talked about insurance companies using this calculation to deny otherwise healthy applicants based on this simple math problem. We also talked about what is considered normal by today's standards and the reality of the idea of what is considered normal. 
They also had a JOURNAL ENTRY: READ THE RAY LEWIS MURDER STORY AND ASKED THEM TO RESPOND TO THE STORY IN A PARAGRAPH IN THEIR COMPOSITION BOOKS.
The students who did not pass the test are required to re-take the test by Wednesday of next week or the grade will stand. 
Vocab is due tomorrow and the 70% rule is in effect for the enrollment of the class, not the class attendees.  Good luck Trojans!

Today the students had a trivia that was asking about daily calorie consumption.  They were also assigned VOCAB: Abattoir, Ballistics, Chemotherapy, Daunting, Easel, Fallible, Jalopy, Gangrene, Habitual, Idiocy, Laceration, Kamikaze The words are to be defined and used in health related sentences. And yes, it is possible.

They then figured out their daily caloric consumption (BMR). We then went over the test that will be taken TOMORROW!!!!
